What are SMTP relays?

SMTP relay allows you to route your website generated emails through an external server or network. For example, Google's Gmail SMTP server is a free SMTP service and there’s no cost involved in routing email through Google’s SMTP servers. This makes it possible for clients to send business and personal emails, newsletters or notifications with their custom domain name.
